1 June - A picture of the greenery around the big pond (not really big, of course) at the start of the month.

Plant growth is rapid at the moment, both in and out of the water.

 

 

 

Just below the yellow Flag Irises, a very diiferent type of flower is just developing on the Branched Bur-reed (Sparganium erectum).

Each group of 'flowers' has at its base one or more female heads (spiky globes with white stigmas) ripening before the smaller male heads above them.

 

After a couple of very warm days, cloud has returned and showers have encouraged many of the the frogs to venture away from the ponds in search of food.

This one chose a high vantage point, on our decking, to watch for prey moving on the grass below.

 

 

 

In contrast, this one held its stretched posture for more than an hour as it tried to keep watch over the edge of the grassy area from the side of the garden.
