This fungus was spotted on 2 September 2001. It has grown out of a deep round hole (diameter 2cm) that had been made in the ground in a grass covered part of the garden.

Down in the hole are some more, very small stalks, each with a small spherical 'head'. The top of the pictured fungus has a diameter of about 8mm.
